Our options are broad enough to address each pillar and to help you make a fast journey to recovery.
These options include:
Detox Referral
The first thing we will do when meeting a new patient, is to consider whether you might benefit from a detox referral.
Detox is for those that are suffering with a physical, chemical addiction. This occurs due to changes in the brain. Most drugs, whether recreational, prescribed or other, will work by triggering the release of various neurochemicals in the brain such as dopamine or serotonin. These make us feel good but they also register in the brain as unusual. When the brain detects abnormally high levels of these chemicals, it may then respond by down-regulating natural endogenous production, or by removing ‘receptor sites’ in the brain.
This may lead to chemical dependence, withdrawal, tolerance and more. The only treatment for this is to wean the patient off of the drug, with the assistance of other chemicals. We can’t handle that in house, but will refer you to a trusted partner that can.
From there we can begin the healing.
Outdoor Therapy
Our outdoor therapy is a form of therapy that involves spending time outdoors and engaging in various different activities. These include leadership and team working activities that can help to build confidence, a sense of responsibility and self-control.
At the same time though outdoor therapy allows patients to benefit from the curative powers of nature, to change their environment and to avoid negative ‘triggers’ that can lead to addictive behaviors. Outdoor therapy has proven popular with many of our patients – especially thanks to our beautiful grounds!
The 12-Step Process
The 12-step process for addiction is a strategy used by the vast majority of rehabilitation centers. It remains this popular for one single reason: it has been proven time and again to be effective.
The steps involve admitting the extent of the problem, recognizing our need for help and then submitting to a higher power to offer that help. There is no need to have any religious affiliation to benefit from the 12-step program, it is up to you how you choose to interpret these teachings.
