About Newsweek’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers List

Newsweek listed current addiction statistics in this year’s report introduction, noting an overdose death rate increase of nearly 30% in the United States since 2019.1 Citing the opioid crisis, the 2020 pandemic, and health factors, Newsweek emphasized the importance of recognizing expanding treatment needs. The news agency provides its list of top addiction treatment facilities each year to help people who struggle with addiction find quality care and support when they need it most.

The #1 ranking facility achieved a score of 89.30%, while Desert Cove scored 86.40%. Quality scores had everything from therapists to leisure activities, including ratings for service, case, accommodations, cleanliness, amenities, and follow-up care.

Recommendation scores were a heavy influence on the total score and ran from one to seven. They encompassed quality factors, and participants had to rate their recommendation of a facility based on its attributes. For accreditation scores, Newsweek based its calculations on nine different accrediting bodies. Each possible accreditation comprised 1/9 of the accreditation score.

About Desert Cove Recovery

Desert Cove Recovery of Scottsdale is an addiction treatment center that provides outpatient-based services, including intensive outpatient care.

For new patients who first need to detox under medical supervision, the facility offers detox referrals. Its treatment approaches include holistic care, which involves treating the mind, body, and spirit. Holistic care is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that helps improve mental health and teach people healthier habits or forms of expression. Desert Cove Recovery uses various treatment methods to help people identify reasons for their behaviors or triggers and ways to change or cope with them.

Since 12-step meetings are a crucial part of many peoples’ lives as they continue with recovery, the facility includes 12-step meetings. Also, since many people have a co-occurring mental health issue, Desert Cove Recovery provides dual diagnosis treatment. This treatment approach addresses the addiction and the underlying mental health issue simultaneously.

Since mental health issues can lead people to develop addictions, and substance misuse can lead to mental health issues, this care is critical to the facility. There is extended care for people who need long-term outpatient treatment to remain in recovery. One of the facility’s top goals is to develop a treatment plan that maximizes a person’s chance of staying in recovery and minimizes relapse risks.
